Why are flights always delayed?

Last updated on April 24, 2023

Flights may be delayed due to a variety of factors such as weather, maintenance, crew scheduling and availability, air traffic control, or other operational issues. Poor weather conditions, including high winds and thunderstorms, can cause delays, as can mechanical and technical issues with the aircraft. Aircraft not arriving from earlier flights on time can also delay subsequent flights. Lastly, air traffic control constraints such as runway or airspace capacity can result in delayed departures or arrivals.
