Why are planes delayed?

Last updated on April 24, 2023

Planes can be delayed due to a variety of factors, including bad weather, mechanical issues, air traffic control, security screenings, and congestion in the airspace. In addition, severe storms, strong winds and snowfall can cause airports to temporarily close down, leading to flight delays. Maintenance issues on the aircraft can also lead to a plane being grounded and further delays. Finally, larger airports tend to have more aircraft operating than they have time and space to accommodate, causing further delays.
