- How much snow will cancel a flight?
The amount of snow needed to cancel a flight will depend on a number of factors. For example, the type of aircraft operating the flight, the temperature of the air and the surface below the aircraft, and the amount of available de-icing equipment. In general, accumulations of greater than 2 inches (5 cm) of snow on the runway, 6 inches (15 cm) of snow in the air and winds greater than 20 knots (37 km/h) can cause a flight to be canceled.
