Why so many cancelled flights?

Last updated on April 25, 2023

There are a variety of reasons why so many flights have been canceled. Common causes include bad weather, air traffic control delays, airline scheduling issues, mechanical failures, and in rare cases, terrorism. Cancelled flights can also be caused by events such as runway closures, airport construction, or space availability at the destination airport. Airlines must sometimes cancel flights due to crew availability or staffing shortages. Additionally, regulatory and safety standards can sometimes mean that fewer flights can be operated.
