When do flights get cancelled due to snow?

Last updated on April 25, 2023

In the case of snow, flights usually get cancelled when expected visibility is lower than the minimum standard accepted in aviation. This usually happens when the temperature drops below a certain point, and when the snow is thick enough to make it difficult for pilots to take off and land safely. Air traffic controllers also take other factors, such as wind, into consideration when determining whether flights should be cancelled.
