Why are the airlines cancelling flights?

Last updated on April 25, 2023

Airlines are cancelling flights due to the outbreak of COVID-19, otherwise known as coronavirus. In an effort to control the spread of the virus, many governments have issued travel bans and are recommending reduced air travel. Airlines have responded to this by suspending flights to certain destinations and reducing their total number of flights to match the reduced demand. This allows them to avoid operating flights with very few passengers, reduce their operating costs, and save on expenses incurred in flight operations.
