Why are American flights cancelled today?

Last updated on April 25, 2023

Today, flights in the United States are often cancelled due to poor weather conditions, flight delays caused by air traffic congestion, or mechanical issues with an aircraft. Poor visibility due to fog, ice, rain, and snow are conditions in which the pilot may not be able to land safely. Air traffic congestion happens when planes need to take off or land at the same time, and the airports can’t handle the amount of aircraft. Lastly, mechanical issues can cause a flight to be cancelled if the engine doesn’t pass inspection, or the aircraft has a problem with a part or component.
