- What do airlines owe you for cancelled flights?
According to the Department of Transportation, airlines owe you a refund to your original form of payment if your flight is cancelled. Airlines also owe you a written explanation of the cause of the cancellation, and provide alternate transportation as soon as possible to get you to your destination. Other forms of compensation may include monetary compensation for the cancelled flight, accommodation for overnight stays and in some cases, food vouchers for meals.
