Why canceled flights?

Canceled flights occur for many reasons. Weather delays due to inclement conditions, mechanical failures, maintenance issues, a shortage of crew and/or aircraft, and airport or airspace congestion can all be possible causes. Air traffic control and airline operational personnel work hard to ensure that flights stay on schedule, but sometimes things are out of their control.
