Why do airlines keep cancelling flights?

Last updated on April 25, 2023

Airlines keep cancelling flights due to unpredictable weather and air traffic control, as well as a lack of available planes and crew members. Unexpected delays or cancellations can occur due to changes in wind patterns, severe weather, airport congestion, and other unexpected issues. For safety reasons, airlines may cancel a flight if they find an issue with the plane or the crew is unable to make it in time. Airlines also may cancel a flight in order to maximize efficiency, if they have more passengers than expected.
