- What happens when an airline cancels a flight?
When an airline cancels a flight, passengers may be eligible for a refund or may be able to rebook for free or for a discounted rate. Airlines must do their best to accommodate passengers by offering alternative flights or arrangements. If the flight is part of a package tour or a charter, it’s the airline’s responsibility to provide alternative flights or arrangements. Airlines may offer food and hotel accommodations in cases of extended delays or overnight stays.
